MASCOT

The mascot of INDONESIA 2012 is respresented by a prehistoric reptile species called Komodo (Varanus Komodoensis).
The endangered species first lived during the time of dinosaurus millions of years ago and amazingly has survived until today on the island of Komodo, as well as neighbouring island of Rinca, Padar and West Flores of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The mascot shows a Komodo Wearing ‘kain tenunan ikat’ or local traditional hand-woven material and holding a magnifying glass.

The support of Federation of Internationale de Philatelie and Federation of Inter-Asian Philately to INDONESIA in holding the international and world exhibiton in the past, turned Indonesia and Indonesian philately to the high speed acceleration.
In our effort to foster the philatelic spirit, we and other institution have decided to support well a World Stamp Championship and Exhibition on 18-24 June in Jakarta, nicknamed INDONESIA 2012. Hopefully, this show theme “Bridging the World of Peace Through Stamp” could obviously inspire the effort of world societies in achieving the eternal peace all over the world. More and more we realize that stamp has changed its track from merely a mean of showing payment of mail delivery to valuabe collectible items. The variety of its themes also stimulates the thematic collectors to learn more about the theme. No doubt, philately with its educational value would play a very important role in character building , especially among young people. I wholeheartedly support INDONESIA 2012 as an encouraging forum for exchanging views in the philatelic field in many different aspects. I would like to welcome Postal Administrations, Jury members and Commissioners, exhibitors, collectors and stamp dealers to visit INDONESIA 2012.
Finally, I would like to offer my heartfelt thank to the Minister of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Federation Internationale de Philatelie, Federation of Inter-Asian Philately, the Board of Directors of Pos Indonesia, The Governor of Jakarta, the Indonesian Philatelists Association, all members of philatelic communities and everyone associated with INDONESIA 2012 and who has give supports and cooperation to make every success of this World Stamp Championship and Exhibition.
